• MannKind announces completion of public offering  MannKind announced completion of an underwritten public offering of 35,937,500 units, including 4,687,500 units sold pursuant to the full exercise of an over-allotment option granted underwriters. Gross proceeds from the offering were $86.3 million, before deducting underwriting expenses.

• Sangamo BioSciences reports fourth quarter and full year 2011 financial results  Sangamo reported a net loss of $6.4 million for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 2011 versus a net loss of $8.3 million for the same 2010 period. Revenues were $4.7 million for the fourth quarters of both 2011 and 2010. As of Dec. 31, 2011, the Company had cash, and equivalents of $84.5 million.

• Hanger Orthopedic Group reports fourth quarter 2011 results  Hanger Orthopedic announced net sales of $248.1 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2011, an increase of $21.6 million, or 9.5%, from $226.5 million for the fourth quarter of 2010. Diluted EPS were $0.52 for the fourth quarter of 2011 versus $0.02 in the same period in 2010.

• Exelixis announces fourth quarter and full year 2011 financial results  Exelixis reported net income of $46.3 million for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011 versus a net loss of ($17.9) million for the comparable period in 2010. Revenues for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011 were $93.3 million versus $40.8 million for the comparable 2010 period.

• CDC study finds levels of trans-fatty acids in blood of U.S. white adults has decreased   Blood levels of trans–fatty acids in white adults in the U.S. population decreased by 58 percent from 2000 to 2009 according to a CDC study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. This is the first time CDC researchers have been able to measure trans fats in human blood.
