- Hanger Orthopedic Group reports fourth quarter 2011 results Hanger Orthopedic announced net sales of $248.1 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2011, an increase of $21.6 million, or 9.5%, from $226.5 million for the fourth quarter of 2010. Diluted EPS were $0.52 for the fourth quarter of 2011 versus $0.02 in the same period in 2010.

- Neurocrine Biosciences reports fourth quarter and year end 2011 results Neurocrine reported net income of $37.6 million for the year ended December 31, 2011 versus a net loss of $8.0 million for 2010. Revenues for the year ended December 31, 2011 were $77.4 million, compared with $33.5 million for 2010.

- Exelixis announces fourth quarter and full year 2011 financial results Exelixis reported net income of $46.3 million for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011 versus a net loss of ($17.9) million for the comparable period in 2010. Revenues for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011 were $93.3 million versus $40.8 million for the comparable 2010 period.

- CDC study finds levels of trans-fatty acids in blood of U.S. white adults has decreased Blood levels of trans–fatty acids in white adults in the U.S. population decreased by 58 percent from 2000 to 2009 according to a CDC study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. This is the first time CDC researchers have been able to measure trans fats in human blood.

- Clostridum difficile-associated diarrhea can be associated with stomach acid drugs FDA reported that the use of stomach acid drugs known as proton pump inhibitors may be associated with an increased risk of Clostridium difficile–associated diarrhea. The FDA is working with manufacturers to include information about the increased risk of CDAD with use of PPIs in the drug labels.
