Overview
The Cerosaletti Lab is seeking a Research Technician to support projects investigating the autoimmune response in type 1 diabetes using human samples. Research is conducted in a highly collaborative atmosphere, both within the lab and the institution.
Responsibilities
A Research Technician performs investigative work for research projects, performing experimental procedures and operating specialized and highly technical laboratory equipment. Reports to principal investigator.
Duties include:
- Initiate and conduct experimental protocols with minimal instruction.
- Perform chemical, physical, or biological analyses following written protocols or establishing new protocols.
- Preparing fractionated samples from blood using sterile techniques.
- Operating a variety of laboratory instruments such as flow cytometers, spectrometers, electrophoresis equipment, radiation counters, PCR machines, measuring instruments and devices.
- Preparing laboratory reagents, chemicals, stocks, cultures and cell lines.
- Maintain lab notebook, including gathering, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data.
- Prepare presentations for lab meeting. Conduct literature searches and data for presentations, progress reports, and manuscripts.
- Confer with other scientific personnel; attend seminars and participate in lab meetings and journal club.
- May train and/or supervise lab aides/techs.
Requirements
- Requires a BA/BS in a scientific field and a minimum of 2-3 years of progressively responsible work experience in a scientific research laboratory.
- Strong mathematical, computer, data analysis, and statistical analysis skills.
- Good verbal and writing skills, and have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Successful completion and documentation of experiments involving mammalian tissue culture.
- Preferred multiparameter flow cytometry experience.
