Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled biochemist, with bioconjugation experience, to join our Core Conjugation team within the Research organization at Seagen. As a Sr. Scientist in the Protein and Bioanalytical Sciences Department, this person will be highly proficient in various conjugation and protein characterization techniques, including experience purifying antibodies and related conjugates at a broad range of scale (microgram to gram). This individual will be responsible for leading and mentoring others as they work together to evaluate novel bioconjugation methods, create ADCs and perform analytical characterization. It is expected that the successful candidate will perform hands-on experiments to generate novel ADCs for preclinical experiments. This position is highly collaborative, and this person will represent the Conjugation Team in several cross departmental projects. This person will also play a critical role in enabling the Research department’s preclinical efforts to develop novel antibody-based therapeutics.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Explore and design new and creative bioconjugation and characterization methods to expand company’s technology platform
  • Critically analyze new and historical bioconjugate characterization data to correlate with pre-clinical biological observations and outcomes
  • Drive creation and characterization of ADCs for preclinical research
  • Perform analytical characterization of antibodies and ADCs including HPLC, LC/MS and spectroscopy
  • Create and implement new lab efficiencies and novel process improvements
  • Share expertise and recommendations for successful situation-specific conjugation efforts
  • Create and organize technical data to deliver effective presentations in multiple forums
  • Supervise direct reports to facilitate timely delivery of materials for experiments, in addition to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized lab
  • Coach and mentor conjugation scientists for performance and career growth

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field
  • 2-5 years of experience leading projects in a biotechnology company focused on bioconjugation, ADC or antibody therapeutic development
  • Strong background in the development of novel bioconjugation approaches
  • Experience in antibody/protein purification and preparative liquid chromatography techniques at a variety of scales, including familiarity with protein or ADC formulation and stability
  • Expertise with a range of analytical techniques including mass spectrometry analysis of protein, HPLC, and spectroscopy
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills, ability to identify and absorb critical information and convey it to relevant stakeholders
  • Strong collaborator with ability to function across teams and a variety of disciplines
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
  • Experience mentoring and leading others
  • Experience practicing and teaching lab safety
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly summarize and present data to larger interdisciplinary audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of oncology and immunology drug development
  • Demonstrated record of publications and/or presentations at scientific conferences
