Senior Manager, Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability for EU

Position Summary

This position will work in Seagen’s Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability & Compliance (EHSS) department and be part of the EHSS&C Leadership Team.

The Senior Manager, EHSS for EU Region as the primary contact for EHSS aspects for the Seagen’s European Offices and contract manufacturing sites. This role reports to the Director of EHSS, supported by the overall EHSS team. This role facilitates the EHSS programs including Fleet Management, Seagen Framework, standards implementation, SOP development, risk assessment, site competence/capabilities, site governance, EHSS management of 3rd parties, and ensures compliance to company/legal requirements for each of our EU Seagen operations.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Lead activities related to fleet and commercial EHSS programs in consultation with managing directors/commercial organization.
  • Lead the contract manufacturer/3rd party EHSS audit program and partner with Quality to conduct virtual and onsite audits in Europe.
  • Evaluates emerging local, country, and EU regulatory requirements and updates the regulatory register, appropriate EHSS programs, and processes to ensure ongoing compliance. Advise corporate EHSS on trends that would impact our European operations.
  • Advising executives, including managing directors in EHSS areas of responsibility.
  • Act as the site representative in EHSS regulatory manner including reporting and response to official inquiries.
  • Implements the EHSS Standards, technical references/procedures, EHSS regulations (multiple countries), site permit requirements, and overall EHSS program to ensure that they are established, current, accurate, compliant, and effective.
  • Works closely with Seagen’s European leadership to drive the organization’s EHSS program, governance, and cultural initiatives to promote individual engagement and line management accountability.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of management monitoring to ensure EHSS compliance and control of risks in-line with the Seagen Control Framework.
  • Support sustainability programs and data collection for Seagen’s European offices for ESG reporting.
  • Responsible for emergency response/preparedness activities investigate incidents, identify root cause, and implement appropriate CAPAs for EHSS incidents.
  • Provide EHSS training across the region and ensure a high level of competence respective to their responsibilities.
  • Lead Risk Management Program for the EU region.
  • Performs hazard analyses, recommends mitigation procedures, and follow up on implementation in their respective building or as assigned.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of EHSS experience in a biotechnology or drug manufacturing.
  • Experience in fleet administration, including EHSS aspects.
  • Strong understanding of drug manufacturing, potent compounds, and GxP programs.
  • Experience in writing reports, SOPs, evaluations.
  • Proficient in applying established standards.
  • Experience in auditing of EHSS programs.
  • Familiar with pertinent country, EU, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate investigation reports.
  • Ability to work independently, lead without authority, and build line management support as well as an engaged workforce.
  • Experience managing and/or participating in multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Other language skills will be helpful in performing the role but not mandatory.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of local compliance, as well as a sound ethical approach to business.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental or related field from four-year College or university CIH, CSP, NEBOSH Diploma or other applicable professional certifications are desirable.
