Summary

The Payroll Specialist will be primarily responsible for processing payroll and maintaining the employee database regarding salary and pay, resolving W4 questions or issues, responding to employee pay slip questions.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for processing biweekly payroll for 2,500+ US employees and exposure to ex-US payroll as well
  • Research and resolve payroll issues
  • Monitor employee timesheets and resolve issues
  • Address and resolve employee questions relating to the pay slips or W2 reporting
  • Preparing periodic payroll reports for review by management
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Accounting and Finance as well as other internal and external stakeholders to inform preparation of payroll accruals, entries, and analysis
  • Identify and articulate improvement initiatives aligned with group and departmental goals and actively lead and/or participate in process improvement projects
  • Ensure the highest standards of financial control and compliance consistent with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Assist in internal audit and external audit documentation and testing

Expected Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business or accounting preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working payroll
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and payroll practices
  • Proven experience in a payroll position in a fast paced environment required
  • Ability to research, reconcile and resolve payroll discrepancies within tight deadlines
  • Multi-state payroll processing knowledge
  • Knowledge of federal and state tax and wage laws
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications with proficiencies in Excel and Word
  • Experience working with SAP SuccessFactors a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and application of best practices and payroll regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Biotech/Pharmaceutical/High-tech industry experience a plus
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation a plus
  • Knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and internal controls
  • Ability to solve and analyze problems, multi-task, meet deadlines, and learn new skills and systems
  • Detail-oriented, ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and able to perform tasks both in a team as well as individually
  • Desire for continuous learning and flexibility to work in multiple areas
  • Exceptional multitasking and organizational skills
  • Strong technical skills/abilities
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Physically able to work seated in front of a computer for long hours at a time
