Summary:
Under the supervision of Associate Director, Assay Development and Transfer, the Research Associate III will perform tasks related to specimen accessioning, QC, H&E staining, immunohistochemistry, and in-situ hybridization on automated platforms, aliquoting, DNA/RNA extractions, molecular testing including, but not limited to, Next Gen Sequencing and other tasks as needed. The RAIII will prepare reagents for use, perform data entry, check for any discrepancies between labels, assist with validations processes for bringing on new tests and/or instruments/equipment. They will follow specific protocols and SOPs in the lab for each of these tasks, as well as perform required maintenance tasks in the laboratory, and other duties as assigned by leadership. They will write validation and other reports and may contribute to scientific publications.
The RAIII will function with a high degree of independence in daily work, and design and interpret complex experiments with guidance. They will have a general understanding of project scope. They will provide experimental expertise, support to others on joint projects, provide data and partial (co-) authorship on group reports. They may mentor other employees or interns and may provide some direction to others. Candidate must possess a commitment to excellence and quality for patients.
Responsibilities:
- Competently carry out all laboratory procedures for pre-analytical specimen handling and processing according to standard operating procedures.
- Perform routine procedures for handling patient specimens using standard techniques and equipment and laboratory information system.
- Assist in writing and follow Standard Operating Procedures.
- Competently perform analytical procedures as required for H&E staining, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, Next Gen Sequencing procedures and other molecular technologies on automated platforms according to standard operating procedures
- Assist in daily functioning responsibilities and performance of general laboratory duties expected of maintaining a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory
- Prepare reagents, stock supplies, and maintain a clean laboratory in order to ensure an orderly working environment
- Participate in all meetings as required
- Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning according to standard operating procedures
- Other tasks as needed
Required Qualifications:
- MS. degree with 2+ years' experience; or equivalent, such as bachelor's degree with 4+ years' experience performing molecular techniques
- Experience with molecular techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, next-generation sequencing)
- Experience working in a regulated setting (CAP, CLIA, GLP)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a clinical laboratory, CLIA and/or CAP environment is strongly preferred

The hiring pay range for this position is $83,000 to $107,800 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
